"Sense and Sensibility". Elinor is "Sense" and Marianne "Sensibility". Austen is emphasising again how English women should behave in society, and she seems to regard Elinor as the proper model. Marianne's excessively emotional approach to life could potentially cause her ruin. In fact, it appears she narrowly escaped a possibly shameful end when it is revealed what Willoughby has been responsbile for! In the ned, Elinor recieves her prize for being rational and patient when she marries Edward Ferrars; Marianne learns that handsome men who read poetry may not lead to happiness, and she is better off married to someone more respectable and trustworthy! There are a lot of scenes from this novel that will remind you of "Pride and Prejudice" (the scenery and the horses). Some of the charcaters may be similar (e.g. Wickham and Willoughby), or completely different (Mrs Bennet and Mrs Dashwaood). Both novels are written as seen through the eyes of the sisters with sense (Lizzy and Elinor).

the film we watched was not good for me. The thing that made me not surprise was money. If you are rich you can marry the man or women you want to marry. In our country we can see such things. The mother was very different in the film.I had difficulty understanding the film at the beginning.

I didnt understand all the things mentioned in the film;however I got what the main point was.I witnessed that not only in our country women have suffered, but also such things could happen in a country like England which we see as the craddle of civilization.I also dont understand why it is women that have to learn how to behave in a society despite that men do behave badly them.I think the way we look at the women should absolutely change.
I'M very affected indeed. ıt's a very good film. elinor represents sense, and marianne represents sensibility. Elinor and Edward marrid in the end which is the most beautiful scene in the film.
Personally, I didn't like the film and could not undersatnd very easily because the events which takes place in film very complex Money is emphasized over other values. If a man is rich marry with him. This fact is very nonsense
I really like the film even if i couldn't understand the whole of the film.A woman should behave like Elinor, but not all the time because sometimes it's necessary to tell about what we feel.I like the end of the film..Both of the girls were happy at the end!
Murat, remember that Jane Austen also thinks that it is ridiculous to marry someone for money. She criticises people who think that wealth and status are important-think about Mr Wickham and Mr Willoughby, Mrs Bennet, and Fanny Dashwood (the "cadı" gelin!!). On the other hand, she exalts those who marry for love-Mr Darcy and Lizzy Bennet, Elinor Dashwood and Edward Ferrars.
ın the beginning ı found the film boring, but when ı began to understand ı liked it. ıt shows us real things from life. for love ı follow my emotions so ı was very sad about Elinor. marianne was patient and sensible girl but it was very stable for me. ın this film ı saw that for some people money was so important that they gave up their love for it. and ı learned the important point in this film " if you wait for sth that you want very much patiently you will reach it one day"! DON'T BE MUCH SENSIBLE AND DON'T BE MUCH EMOTIONAL ALWAYS BE BALANCED!
I liked the film. It was so romantic. From time to time I was so curious about what will happen next e.g: Marianne falls down, and a boy on horse comes. Who is the boy? I think Marianne shows her emotions a lot. She has no sense of right and wrong. I think Elinor is wrong, too. To the contrast Marianne, she hides her emotions too much. As a conclusion, I think the two exactly different characters compliment each other.
At the beginnig of the film I was bored but then I liked it espcially final part. To be patient and to think rationally on every occassion provide what we want to achieve...
The film is not as enjoyable as book.Jane Austen was indeed a great novelist. She creates a temple from the small stones of society. As I experinced enough, the man reading a lot seperated the society that involved in ordinary thing.Being a member of society lacking of the feel of literature ıs doomed to live in poverty.
The characters in the film are suitable to the novel. Elinor' sense and Marianne's sensibility show us women's behaviour in society. Elinor doesn't show her feelings and she waits for the right time to speak, an the contrary, Marianne expresses her feelings clearly, and she doesn't think the end. I think film was great, but I'm sure that the book is more enjoyable than the film...
It's definetly a very good film.as everyone knows Jane Austene is an exellent writer. why? since she write her novels in a small environment, that is, she appreciate the women while ones don't care them.
Just like most of my friends I couldn't understand all the things in the film :)but anyway I could catch a few important points. Sense and Sensibility tries to point out the status of the woman in society.
Also, Jane Austen shows us two contrast characters,Elinor who is sense and Marianne who is sensibility.Sometimes it is good to use our senses instead of trusting the emotions!
when we watched Sense and Sensebility,I compared it to Pride and Prejudice. The topics are similar, but the attitudes of the mothers to their daughters are totally different. In Sense and Sensebility the mother attaches importance to the feeling of her daughters.Money is important, but feelings of her daughter is more important.I saw that family factor is very important.I also saw that Marianne's and Elinor's attitudes are very different.Marianne says and shows her feelings ,but Elinor doesn't say anything about what she thinks.
In the beginning I had difficulty to understand the film but I catched the main idea.I think that Pride and prejiduce is more comprihensible and beautiful than this.Sense and sensibility is a story of two sisters Elinor and Marianna.Elinor who is passionate and Marianna is contrast to her.We must learn to mix sense and senbility to happy in life:)
I totally agree with İlyas, why do women have to learn how to behave? Most of them already know.Today we still experience such things.I think, women do their job,men who behave badly should behave like we do:))

After watching the movie, I’ve recognized that the content of the novel is great. It proves the real meaning of the true love and teaches us that the true love requires a balance between reason and emotions. We should know that -as you say- that handsome men who read poetry may not lead to happiness..
and also the views in the film are marvelous, I love nature..:)
Anyway it is a wonderful movie, beautiful, and fantastic..
Even if I couldn't understand the film I undertood what the main point was. The film focuses on the place of women in society and how women should behave. There are two sisters whose characteristics are completely different from each other. One represents sense while the other represents sensibility. We should become both sensible and sensitive if we want to be happy in life.
When I watched the film, a few point took my attention much more than other scenes. When the father of Elinor and Marianne dies, two sisters have no right of inheritance but their stepbrother inherits a fortune so day by day everything gets worse for Elinor, Marianne and Mrs. Dashwood especially with unbearable behaviours of Fanny Dashwood (cadı gelin). Even Elinor can't get married with Edward since she is not as rich as Edward. These all reflect the rights of English women in society.Fortunately, at the end of the fiction Edward Ferrars marries with Elinor for love since he gives no importance to status and money:)
actually I liked the film, when I was watching it, I felt that I was watching turkish film:)) there is again marriage,love,tears.. actually, austen tries to catch attention to the status of the woman.
Literature is always the place where we mention the debteble topics. In this novel,we evperienced the social roles of women. Why society made women behave in certain ways.It is always the question in my mind.
It is a fact that in this book people can notice the characters which we can see everywhere in the world such as people who love money, ideal women, and honest men.In the film I noticed this characters clearly.
to be honest, ı like the story but again ı dont like most of the characters in the film because people always think there their social statu and money is the thing which is higher than love ,honest and respect..
there are the people who are identified in the film in the real world. the terms of money and love have different meanings for people.
the plot of the story is not suprising for me because it resembles to the love of today's people.atoday also social class differences can prevent the people from getting married.the film was as yaprak dökümü... who loves who was very complicating.
people see the many as a source of being happiness, so if there is no many no happiness will be.. I undrestand this from the film.
although people are sisters or brothers, they have different characters. Elinor is sense and Marianne is sensible.
this is what ı like about this book Nurhayat. Jane Austen shows these individual differences successfully.
thanks medine because she agree with me :)
when I watched film, I could understand the theme of the novel of Jane Austen.
very impressive story!there are sadness, happiness, love, tears, faithfulness and of course lies.a good classic for a love story in English lit.
jane austen showed the meaning of sense and sensibility on her characters elinor and marianne so I think everybody understand what are the meaning of sense and sensibility.
You will learn all kinds of things about people and life that are as true today as well as back then. Great comedy and romance. The best ever.
This was my 3rd reading of this book. I love Jane Austen. There's really nothing more to be said. Perfection.
Sense and Sensibility is a romance novel written by Jane Austen. It is the story of two sisters, Marianne and Elinor Dashwood, who could not be more different in personality. Marianne is the emotional sister who allows her feelings to be known. On the other hand, Elinor is a very practical thinker, who rarely over reacts. To tie the story together, both sisters go through a similar experience.
Sense and Sensibility is a little funnny,a bit sad, entertaining and very welcoming story, I think.Although it centers on the relationship of two sisters and their respective romantic relationships, it is definitely clear that events were in that period from its precise descriptions of the English country society. I liked Jane Austen's descriptions of human feelings, hesitations and dilemmas. While Pride and Prejudice is about miscommunication, Sense and Sensibility is about growing of two sisters as they encounter difficulties. While growing up is an important sub theme in Pride and Prejudice, you see growing up better developed in Sense and Sensibility. I liked most Marianne. I think she is more charming than her sisters. Her emotions are very deep, she loves deeply, grieves deeply, even her prejudice is deep.
Jane Austen shows us whether we should rely on our senses or our emotions. Marianne once wanted a marriage in the Romantic tradition and has got a rational one instead..I think she did the right thing. It is better to marry a faithful person than to marry a unreliable person who can betray you at any moment and leave you in the lurch even if you love him so much.
There are some similarities and also some differences between "Sense and Sensibility" and "Pride and Prejudice".There are a few characteristics who are similar with eachother such as Wickham and Willoughby,so I am confused about the subjects of these two novels..
Sense and Sensebility is different from Pride and Prejudice in some
points. For example Mrs Bennet and Mrs Dashood is slightly different from each other. While Mrs Bennet gives importance to money Mrs Dashwood does not and Sense and Sensibility was more complicated than Pride and Prejudice
so I was sometimes confused while watching it.Jane Austen wants to clarify how an English woman should behave in society in both Pride and Prejudice
and Sense and Sensebility.
The film was good. The character of Elinor suits the theme. She shows the sense of the book , similarly Marianne personify the sensibility part of the book.

Novel shows the different characters that are sometimes entirely unrelated to each other. We can easily see that even two sisters can have absolutely different minds and families like theirs' can be met in the environment.
After we watched the film "Sense and Sensibility" the thing that most attracted me in this film was the two sisters' characters.Marianne was behaving only with her sensibility and Elinor was behaving with her sense. And at last when the love gets together with sense and sensibility two sisters gets more powerful and be happy.
A little funny, a bit sad, an all-around entertaining. Enduring love, heartbreak, undying passion and bitter betrayal. What more could you ask from a film? SENSE AND SENSIBILITY has all this features.I liked a quatation in the film as well: one's happiness can not be depend on another person...
I think that when I watch the film, I don't need to read the book again because the film gives everything clearly. The characters in the film play their role very well, I appreciate them because of their great performance and their reflection of that period. However, the film or the novel has some type of society rules such as behaving in a certain way, emphasizing the status of a person, marrying with only rich person.
when l watch this film l understand that even years ago the main goal of people was the same, money.Especially Mrs. Bennet,is very fond of money and respect people according to their status in the society. The love events in the film is really complicated, but the end is happy.
The story was great.Jane Austen is really an excellent author. In Pride and Prejudice she shows the power of love, but the end of the story wasn't as I expected. In my opinion Elizabeth shouldn't get married to Mr.Darcy.Although he becomes a bit modest through the end of the story he is still very bossy man.If I were Elizabeth, I would say painful to him.The pride should take place in the end of the story, too. But still I liked it.The couples reach to happy end.The character of Mrs.Bennet reminded me the character of 'Hayriye' in Yaprak Dökümü.
I didn't like the film so much.It was a bit complicated, but the story was good, indeed. In sense and sensibility there were some similarities with pride and prejudice. But the mother characters were different and I think the mother character in sense and sensibility is more self respected than Mrs.Bennet.I liked her.
When I watched the film, I thought that the money problem and marriages for parental, social or financial reasons are universal. In Turkey, especially in the east part of the country, there are marriages for these reasons yet. Surely, in England at this age there were strict class distinctions and parents who are looking for rich men for their girls to marry:) Jane Austen criticizes all these conditions in her novel successfully.
I liked the scenario by Jane Austen. however to tell the truth I couldn't get some of the points the author wanted to deliver. the narrow-minded vision of the men, and the pains women suffered. Sisters didn't have a strong bends as you can understand from the obstacles and the quarrels they faced.
Life is full of facts and pain to the people who don't know this,so emotional approach to life usually fails to make people happy. What life shows us is more different than what it gives. As it is said in the passage,a handsome man who reads poetry may not lead happiness.
